Why Attend?
Multidisciplinary guidelines for patient management are constantly updated on diverse topics in the treatment of thyroid disorders. Now more than ever, innovations in diagnostic tests, therapies, and surgical technologies are influencing patient care options. This year’s conference will cover topics such as molecular applications in thyroid neoplasia, practical management tips, advances in laboratory testing and new technologies in thyroid surgery with a goal of increasing competence and clinical performance in managing patients with routine and complex thyroid disorders to improve outcomes.
This one-day course will provide up-to-date reviews in the management of thyroid diseases with a focus on the advances in thyroid cancer care and will address key concepts through didactic lectures, panel discussion, and a special keynote presentation with ample time for interactive audience participation.
Who should attend?
The course is designed for a multidisciplinary audience. Physicians, PA, nurses, residents, fellows, and other health care professionals in primary care as well as other specialties such as endocrinology, surgery, pathology, genetics, immunology, and oncology are invited to attend.
After completing this course, participants will be able to:
- Summarize the updated ATA guidelines for classification, risk stratification, management, and indications for fine needle aspiration of thyroid nodules and interpret their clinical practice implications.
- Recognize the key updates for thyroid cytology and thyroid neoplasm classification and describe their clinical practice implications.
- Distinguish the state-of-the-art laboratory tests for thyroid disease, including immunoassays and mass spectrometry, list their analytical limitations, and discuss their role in evaluating thyroid disease.
- Critically review the efficacy, side effects, and clinical indications for thyroid cancer therapies, both FDA-approved and those in development.
- Summarize the efficacy and safety profiles of targeted therapies for thyroid cancer and describe current research in targeted drug development and combination therapies.
- Identify the molecular signatures associated with specific thyroid malignancies.
- Describe the pathophysiology of thyroid eye disease and recognize the role of endocrinologists in the assessment, diagnosis, and medical management of thyroid eye disease.
- Recognize the different surgical options and modalities in the treatment of patients with various types of thyroid disorders and stages of thyroid cancer.
